How to Talk to Kids About Technology Without Fighting Over Screens

Children today grow up surrounded by technology, and sometimes it seems like phones and digital games take up all their attention. Dealing with this is not just about limiting screen time; it is more important to change the way we communicate and interact with them. Instead of giving instructions or lecturing, we should approach them with curiosity and ask what they find interesting in a game or app. When children feel heard, they are less likely to resist.

Setting reasonable and shared rules, experiencing digital games and activities together, and offering engaging alternatives such as sports, music, or crafts can reduce the negative impact of technology. It is also important for parents to lead by example and spend time with the family without phones or tablets.

Focusing on support, conversation, and respect works better than blame or threats. When children feel that their parents understand and accompany them, managing technology use becomes easier and more effective.
