Honestly, it depends on how we use it. If you’ve just become a parent, you might be wondering: “How will my child grow up in a world so connected to the internet?”. That’s a completely valid question. The internet is full of learning opportunities, but it also has real risks.

Let’s be realistic:

  • The internet today is like a city street; we can’t keep our kids away from it forever, but we can teach them how to walk safely.
  • Total avoidance usually leads to more curiosity.
  • Supervision and honest conversations are the best form of protection.

A few simple ideas to start with:

  • Use it together. Sit with your child when they go online. Show them that the internet isn’t just for games or videos, but also a place to explore and learn.
  • Set clear but friendly rules. Have specific times and age-appropriate sites.
  • Encourage curiosity instead of fear. Ask what they saw or learned. Open conversations matter more than strict limits.
  • Be the example. If we are always on our phones, it’s hard for our kids to learn the difference between using technology and depending on it.

The internet itself is neither good nor bad. Like electricity, it all depends on how we use it. With awareness and togetherness, it can become one of the most powerful tools to help our children grow and thrive.
