The Power of Active Listening

A few years ago, I had a colleague who often interrupted others during conversations. They probably did not realize it, but this habit disrupted meetings and made people feel unheard. Instead of telling them directly that it was wrong, I tried to show the importance of active listening in my own interactions. I would listen carefully, take notes, and refer back to their points once they finished speaking. Over time, they noticed the difference and gradually stopped interrupting.

What I learned is that sometimes the best way to change someone’s behavior is through our own example. Modeling the right approach can be more effective than pointing out mistakes. Active listening is not just a communication skill. It is a form of respect and an essential part of professional collaboration.
