Why Technology Sometimes Makes Us Feel Tired

We often think technology makes life easier, and in many ways it does. But it can also quietly drain our energy. Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Information overload: We are constantly exposed to messages, updates, and notifications. Our brains are not built to process this much input, so even passive scrolling can feel exhausting.
  2. Too many small decisions: From choosing a playlist to replying to messages, our minds face hundreds of micro-decisions every day. This leads to decision fatigue, where mental energy runs out faster than we expect.
  3. Constant comparison: Social media subtly pushes us to compare ourselves with others. Even when we do not notice it, this can create stress and feelings of inadequacy.
  4. Blurred boundaries: Technology keeps us connected all the time. When work emails and personal messages share the same screen, our brains never fully switch off.
  5. Continuous stimulation: Apps are designed to trigger quick dopamine hits through likes, notifications, and instant feedback. This makes us crave more stimulation and reduces our ability to focus deeply.

Taking small steps to disconnect, set boundaries, and be more intentional with our screen time can make a big difference. Sometimes, the best upgrade is simply giving our minds space to rest.
