Why Weak Passwords Put Your Family at Risk

Many people think hacking only happens to big companies. The truth is that ordinary families can be targets too.

Not long ago, I came across a family who had set their Wi-Fi and email password to their child’s date of birth. An attacker was able to guess it easily, gain access to the email, take over their social media accounts, and even reset their online banking password using the same email. The result? Unauthorized withdrawals, a lot of stress, and weeks of dealing with the aftermath.

This shows one important fact: A weak password is not just a small mistake. It can disrupt both your personal and financial life.

Simple steps to stay safe:

  • Use passwords that are at least 12 characters long.
  • Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  • Avoid using birthdays, names, or common words.
  • Rely on a Password Manager to keep things organized.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) whenever possible.

Cybersecurity often starts with small decisions. Choosing a strong password can prevent a huge problem.
